Multiple passengers and crew sustained injuries after a Delta Airlines flight traveling from LA to Sydney, Australia encountered significant turbulence Friday morning.

The flight, numbered 41 "experienced a brief period of turbulence" as it made its approach and landed at the Sydney airport, a company official informed. A number of the onboard staff were injured.

Emergency medical services said they treated five individuals, and took a trio to a medical facility with minor injuries that included spinal discomfort and headaches. The injured were between their 30s to 70s.

It is the newest example of commercial jets experiencing severe turbulence, with experts indicating that global warming is a key driver.

On board were nearly 250 travelers and fifteen staff members on the Airbus A350, the Delta spokesperson noted, stating that the plane landed "safely and normally" at Sydney Airport at 06:48 local time on Friday morning.

The NSW Ambulance Service reported they received a call just three minutes before the plane arrived, and response teams were standing by on the runway.

The reasons turbulence is getting increasingly prevalent - and often stronger.

In the previous year, two dozen individuals sustained injuries when a separate Delta aircraft, flying from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam, Netherlands, encountered "considerable" rough air just a couple of hours into the transoceanic journey, and was forced to make an unscheduled landing.
