Several casualties in custody have been widely reported, including a 50-year-old healthcare leader who died in detention after four months in custody.

A detainee detained alongside the individual stated that he was brought to the yard by guards shortly before his passing, visibly injured and unclothed from the hips downward. His remains has not been repatriated to Gaza.

Further inmates who perished in detention in Israel are unidentified. The prison service and military provided investigators with the figure of casualties in detention, and limited additional information including the site where they perished, but not the inmates’ personal details.

Recognition Difficulties

Regarding 21 occurrences, mainly people from Gaza, investigators could not to correlate the minimal data given by authorities to a death documented by advocacy bodies, either through accounts from former inmates or reporting in the media.
